Purpose
Assist the facility manager as directed to safely implement the repair and maintenance of physical assets, grounds, facilities, equipment and utilities to ensure that they are kept in a condition of operating excellence so that they are clean, safe, healthy, and may be fully used productively, comfortably, economically and safely, at all times by all stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
Perform major and minor repair and maintenance of all physical assets, buildings, facilities, grounds, and utilities. Complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures. Complete assigned work-orders and perform preventative maintenance on a variety of systems, components, and equipment on a regular basis. Inspect physical assets, buildings, facilities, grounds, and utilities and identify items in need of maintenance or repair, and diagnose and ‘trouble shoot' failures pursuant to electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other equipment and building components. Assist the IT Department with making necessary repairs/installs when needed. Assist Road to Recovery Department with preventative maintenance and minor repairs on the vehicles. Assist the Food Service Department with making necessary repairs on kitchen equipment when needed. Maintain legible reports and records. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
Must have the unassisted and unrestricted ability to: move independently throughout Columbus House, the City of New Haven and the state of Connecticut; perform heavy manual labor in varied assignments; lift and carry as much as 80 pounds safely; do extensive walking, bending, stooping, reaching; work safely from ladders, staging, etc; use hands to perform fine manipulation and safely operate powered maintenance equipment or vehicles. Must have a valid driver's license, own transportation, and be reliable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Requires skill, knowledge, and experience, pursuant to: safe work practices and occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in general building and maintenance work; safe and efficient operation, use, and maintenance of a variety of power equipment, basic hand tools and equipment; chemicals and other products used to perform routine maintenance work; basic code compliance; accepted general construction and maintenance standards and practices; methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and construction trades across disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, masonry, concrete, and site / landscape work, etc; Requires ability to: make sound judgments pursuant to safe work practices and occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in general building and maintenance work, and the safe and efficient operation, use, and maintenance of materials, chemicals and other products, as well as a variety of power equipment, basic hand tools and other related equipment; recognize, diagnose and ‘trouble shoot' malfunctions or failures pursuant to electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other equipment and building components; communicate with technical specialists; execute oral and written instructions; read, write, make, and maintain legible reports and records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, building occupants, volunteers, public officials, visitors, etc; work independently or cooperatively as a member of a team.

Supervised by: Facilities Manager
Schedule: 40 hours per week to be determined
Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour plus excellent benefits
