VEVRAA Federal Contractor: Priority Referrals of Protected Veterans Requested

The Columbus House Grant Writer is responsible for identifying, researching, tracking and preparing proposals for new and existing public (federal/state/local government) and private (corporate, community, family and individual) funding sources to support current and future Columbus House initiatives.

Qualifications & Abilities
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in seeking and writing effective grant proposals with a proven track record of success. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as good judgment and a strong sense of confidentiality. Must be able to clearly articulate the Columbus House mission and the wide range of diverse programs offered to those experiencing homelessness. Comfortable maintaining relationships with staff, managers, directors and other Columbus House stakeholders. Fully understands the organization’s financial goals and works collaboratively and independently with Columbus House staff in order to achieve those goals.


Self-starting and deadline oriented, capable of managing multiple assignments and priorities with strong attention to detail and consistency. Strong organizational and outstanding collaborative skills. Familiar with online and standardized grant applications as well as the latest grant research tools. Four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development. Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license with a good driving record.


Works closely with program staff to fully understand the function and needs of each program relative to a particular grant application. Researches new grant opportunities from government, corporate, foundation and private funding sources to fund Columbus House projects and programs. Generates well-written, well-researched and well-documented grant proposals in accordance with grantor guidelines and requirements. Coordinates and tracks grant activity across all agency departments (including those written by other staff) ensuring adherence to grantor guidelines and deadlines. Works closely with Executive Assistant in managing and tracking government grants/contracts. Assists in collecting data, analyzing outcomes/measures and collaborates with Columbus House staff, where appropriate, to create reports for private funders, as needed. Maintains an up-to-date funding calendar to track deadlines and report due dates. Updates Communications Coordinator regarding requirements for publicizing awards. Updates all grantor information in the Donor Development data base and maintains an accurate grant tracking mechanism. Other activities as assigned by the Development Director.

Salary: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience plus paid time off
Schedule: 25 hours/week, flexible schedule (occasional weekends); NO telecommuting, onsite 5 days/week
