Property Inspector (Middlesex & New Haven Counties)

VEVRAA Federal Contractor: Priority Referrals of Protected Veterans Requested

With the guidance of the Property Manager, the Property Inspector will work as an integral part of the Columbus House Facilities and Permanent Supportive Housing case manager teams. The Property Inspector will inspect rental/shelter units for the placement of Permanent Supportive Housing, shelter, and other agency clients in the Greater New Haven, Wallingford and Greater Middletown areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct apartment/unit inspections; identify inspection deficiencies and follow-up with Landlords, property owners and tenants; Complete Housing Quality Standards inspection form; Assist in resolving landlord and tenant issues; Maintain a timetable for inspections and leases; Conduct yearly, monthly and weekly inspections of scattered sites, shelters or any other inspections as assigned; Assist with Environmental Reviews and Rent Reasonableness; Develop and build positive relationships with landlords; Organize and maintain lease renewals, tenant and office files in a safe and secure manner; Oversee move in and move out inspections; Create reports and purchase orders as needed; work with other Columbus House staff as appropriate; other related duties as assigned.

Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required
Bachelor's degree with two years' experience in subsidized housing, inspections or related field required; Knowledge of Housing Quality Standards, leasing procedures and inspection methods; Sound judgement and decision making; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Excellent organizational, computer and time management skills; Able to work independently; Effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel and general public; Valid Driver's License with a good driving record; ability to use own transportation and able to move independently throughout Columbus House Facilities, the local community, and state of Connecticut; Demonstrated capacity to problem solve is essential.

Supervised by: Property Manager
Salary: $17.30 to $19.23 per hour plus excellent benefits.  
Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with some flexibility
