The Pathways To Independence Housing Specialist works with families/consumers and case management staff to locate and secure high quality housing for program participants. The Housing Specialist assesses family/consumer needs and preferences and assists with locating available units; builds relationships with current and potential landlords; inspects prospective units to ensure HUD compliance; supports positive consumer-landlord relations and acts as liaison between the client and landlord as needed. The specialist works closely with families/consumers and case managers including advocating on behalf of tenants with landlords and ensuring that families/consumers understand the rights and responsibilities of tenancy. 
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Bachelor's degree with 3 years relevant work experience preferably with homeless populations.  Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and excellent writing skills.  Knowledge of supportive housing principles and procedures, knowledge of community support systems and resources, considerable communication, counseling, interpersonal skills, ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, ability to evaluate and act in crisis situations, knowledge of leasing procedures and fair housing laws, knowledge of housing quality standards and inspection methods. Time management skills and computer literate with a deadline oriented mindset. Able to meet all documentation requirements; complete knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of person-centered case management. Able to assess strengths, barriers, and needs to assist clients in identifying personal goals, values and priorities, ability to advocate for consumers as well as support self-advocacy. Familiar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and group dynamics; capacity to work within a team and foster teamwork. Crisis intervention skills, boundaries, confidentiality, universal precautions, harm reduction, strong empathetic skills. Ability to maintain her or his own wellness.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Outlook, Access, Excel and Word. 
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists consumers with the leasing process including locating available housing units. Provide client/ landlord mediation and/or intervention.  Provide support to case managers on issues related to housing concerns. Coordinates with area landlords regarding tenant/landlord issues and ensures HUD HQS Standards are met. Coordinates with subsidy provider to ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely manner. Performs all housing inspections and approves apartments for tenancy. Prepares all housing contracts/leases and necessary correspondence. Monitors the status of new referrals and recertification schedule. Maintains all relevant records for all tenant files. Participates in process improvement activities. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Salary Range: $17.30 to $19.23 per hour plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. flexible.
