Recovery Support Specialist - New Haven Green

Purpose

With guidance from the Outreach Manager, the RSS provides support services to clients from the Outreach & Engagement programs. The RSS role performs a wide range of tasks to mutually support clients in gaining an understanding of recovery and wellness principles, practices and pathways, including: Hope, Choice, Empowerment, Recovery Culture and Spirituality; and the Trauma Informed Care Values: SAFETY, TRUSTWORTHINESS, CHOICE, COLLABORATION, and EMPOWERMENT.

Qualifications
The RSS has lived experience with serious mental illness or substance abuse and has demonstrated stability in their own recovery and is willing to identify self as a person in recovery. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent; have basic computer skills or willingness to learn; and have a valid driver's license and good driving record. RSS's acknowledge that they are only the experts on themselves and recognize the same for the people they serve. Must be respectful, non-judgmental, compassionate, and empathetic towards others while developing complimentary partnerships with team members and community resources. Must be both organized and flexible while able to employ recovery language as appropriate. Must have an understanding of Trauma Informed Care services.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs outreach duties with other Outreach workers from Columbus House and Collaborating agencies. Assist clients in articulating and determining the steps they decide to take in order to reach their recovery goals. Assists clients in building relationships within their community that will further enrich their daily life. Orients consumers to the agency and appropriate programs. Role model good self-care, coping skills, self-help strategies and the regular use of wellness tools. Participates in required recovery support team meetings, staff meetings, workshops and trainings as determined by supervisor. Completes all required paperwork according to program standards in a timely manner. Maintains regular contact with supervisor and actively seeks input from supervisor, co-workers, and persons in recovery.
Outreach focus to the New Haven Green and must collaborate with the NHPD, City of New Haven Community Services Administration Office, Coordinated Access Network, Overflow Shelter and the Outreach and Engagement team.

Supervised by: Senior Manager of Outreach & Engagement
Pay: $12.00 to $14.00 per hour plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, flexible
