CT Public Radio Sock Drive
With studios at Gateway Community College, Connecticut Public Radio selected Columbus House as the local non-profit to support during their two-week Fund Drive. For any donor who pledged to Connecticut Public Radio (CPR) and selected to receive a pair of CPR socks as a thank-you gift, CPR would donate a pair to Columbus House. The drive ran from April 15-26, and we will receive 415 pairs of socks! We are grateful to CPR and their donors for supporting our work in the community.
The Big Sleep Out
For the second year in a row, high school student Ella Stanley organized The Big Sleep Out, an interactive, overnight event on the Guilford green that heightens awareness on the issues surrounding homelessness and raises critical funds for our programs. On April 27th, with the support of local religious institutions, community members and her peers, participants engaged in workshops, speaker panels and activities – including calls to advocacy – all to benefit the clients Columbus House serves. We are grateful to Ella, St. George Roman Catholic Church, and all the supporters and participants who helped raise funds and awareness for our work to end homelessness!
Rock to Rock
To help raise funds to keep Columbus House eco-friendly, participants joined our Green Team in the Rock to Rock Earth Day bicycle ride in New Haven on April 27. Over $8,000 was raised by 18 cyclists who rode to assist us in continuing our greening efforts, including recycling, composting and LED lighting. Yale School of Architecture students showed their support in numbers, raising funds and riding on our behalf – many thanks!
The Great Give
Supporters of Columbus House raised $17,667 during The Great Give, an annual 36-hour online giving challenge hosted by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven on May 1 & 2. We are thankful to everyone who supported us during this event.
New Haven Night Market
Columbus House participated in The Town Green District’s New Haven Night Market, downtown New Haven’s evening bazaar that celebrates the community’s art, music, food, culture and more. On May 17, from 6:00-11:00 pm, visitors engaged with staff, board and volunteers to spread the word about our work in the community.
For four hours on Saturday, May 18, high school student Sai Potluri raised funds for Columbus House through a fundraiser at the Chipotle restaurant in Shelton. Inviting friends, family and classmates through flyers, word of mouth and social media, 33% of the proceeds from in-store food sales from 4:00-8:00 pm that day will be donated to Columbus House so we can continue to help our neighbors experiencing homeless. Thanks to everyone who participated in this delicious event!
