PTI Employment & Housing Specialist

Under the direction of the Employment and Benefits Manager, the Employment and Housing Specialist seeks to locate and secure quality housing and employment opportunities for homeless individuals. The Employment and Housing Specialist will seek to engage both landlords and potential employers to assist individuals to find and retain housing and employment. The PTI Employment and Housing Specialist works to empower consumers to reach housing and financial independence by imparting relevant skills as necessary. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or relevant field with 2 years’ relevant experience or an Associate’s degree with three years human services experience. Knowledge of Fair Housing Laws and supportive housing principles and procedures; knowledge of community support systems and resources. Knowledge of leasing procedures, housing quality standards and inspection methods. Knowledge of potential employers in the Greater New Haven area. Solid mathematic and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindset. Strong written and oral communication skills employing the English language. Proficient is Microsoft Office and other common desk top applications. Able to work with diverse populations. Sound judgment and decision-making ability. Crisis intervention skills, boundaries, confidentiality, universal precautions, harm reduction, strong empathetic skills. Possessed of a strong desire to promote equal access and opportunity for homeless persons and those with disabilities. Familiar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and dynamics. Ability to collaborate successfully with others. Able to meet all documentation requirements. Must be able to multitask. Valid drivers’ license with a good driving history.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist clients with securing affordable housing and employment opportunities. Provide client/landlord mediation and/or intervention. Aggressively and innovatively pursue the development of additional housing and employment solutions. Coordinate the use of RRH funding and employment assistance programs. Ensures housing standards are met and conducts inspections prior to tenancy. Coordinate with area employers conducting job development and placement opportunities for homeless individuals. Reviews all housing contracts/leases and necessary correspondence. Coach consumers to use community supports for future housing and employment needs. Attend regularly scheduled supervision, team or staff meetings as requested. Monitor all cases assigned and complete all documentation/charting required. Maintain strict confidentiality concerning both program applicants and accepted clients while carrying out all duties. Other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $17.30 to $19.23 per hour plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. flexibility required.
